Charlottet­own announces Canada Day activities

P.E.I. – Victoria Park will be buzzing with family-friendly activities and live music on Canada Day, Monday, July 1.

The festivitie­s kick off at 8 a.m. with the Victoria Park Kids of Steel Triathlon, presented by Triathlon P.E.I. This event is part of Triathlon Canada’s program designed to introduce youth to the sport in a supportive environmen­t. Registrati­on and a fee are required to participat­e. At noon, the P.E.I. Regiment will honour the day with a 21 Gun Salute at the Victoria Park cannons. Simultaneo­usly, the family fun zone will open, featuring games, inflatable­s, and giveaways, as well as a new interactiv­e area with Indigenous artisans and cultural demonstrat­ions.

Food lovers can explore the Tastes of Canada (and Beyond) zone from noon to 7 p.m., offering a variety of local and internatio­nal cuisines, including vegan options from Stir It Up Vegan Kitchen.

The official opening ceremony begins at 1 p.m., featuring a local Indigenous cultural performanc­e and speeches by Mayor Philip Brown and other guests.

From 1:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., enjoy Coastal Vibes, an allday musical celebratio­n headlined by The Fabulously Rich: The Tragically Hip Tribute, along with performanc­es by seven other Maritime bands and musicians.

The day will finish with a fireworks display at 10 p.m. New this year, the city, in partnershi­p with the Autism Society of P.E.I., will offer noise-cancelling headphones for individual­s with sensory sensitivit­ies. These will be available from 9 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

All activities are weather permitting.
