WellBeing

From the editor

Change is inevitable; it’s the only constant in life that we can truly rely on.

- Words by Kate Holland

Hello. What an unfamiliar feeling it is, sitting in the chair at the head of the table. To be honest, I never wanted to take this seat — it would mean my good friend and mentor Terry would no longer be occupying it. I’ve always been content sitting beside him, sharing ideas, workshopping article topics and discussing life. I miss his guidance and his light, but it makes my heart swell knowing that Terry still has a seat at the WellBeing table. You’ll hear from him in the coming pages and he opens and closes our book with the wonder pages. I am not yet ready to sail this voyage on my own.

As you may have noticed, WellBeing has had some big changes of late. Our redesign, which has been very well received, offers more creativity and space to our pages. Our images are modern, fresh and more inclusive. Our articles, which stay true to our ethos of journalist integrity, depth and quality, are still the flesh and bones of our magazine. However, our spine — Terry — has stepped to the side. In his place, at the helm of the magazine, is me.

What a plot twist. Perhaps an inevitable one? Perhaps it’s the right time? Terry seems to think so and so does our publisher. I’ve been working on WellBeing for more than 12 years. But can I do this? Do I have what it takes to lead this brilliant magazine with the same integrity, intention and heart as Terry did? Yes. I can only try. I will bring everything Terry taught me to the table. But it will be different — it is already different.

Change is inevitable; it’s the only constant in life that we can truly rely on. The publishing industry as we know it has changed. Rapidly and drastically. So we had to change. Rapidly and drastically.

Welcome to a new era of WellBeing. What I can promise you is:

Kate
