Float away to cloud house
Welcome to your own contemporary concrete haven which features spectacular open sky views, writes Viva Hyde
Float away to Kumo in the serene Currumbin Valley, a contemporary haven where simplicity and warmth intertwine. At the heart of this 4.05 hectare pocket of paradise for sale on the Gold Coast Hinterland is a low-profile concrete home.
Homeowners and local entrepreneurs, Luke and Bec Conforti, purchased the land at 708E Currumbin Creek Rd in 2021. They envisaged building a state-of-the-art eco home to share with their toddler son, tending to chickens, ponies, veggie gardens and an orchard.
“People say a hobby farm, but I also like lifestyle block, because it is a lifestyle,” Mr Conforti said.
The couple owns the Cornerstone Stores hub at Tugun, and the recently launched Currumbin commercial project, The Warehouses.
Kumo was named for the Japanese word for cloud – inspired by the property’s spectacular open sky views. The threebedroom, two-bathroom home was designed by J.AR Office and built in 2023 by Hnkn, with interiors by Kira & Kira.
It is listed for auction on June 1 with Emisha Canning, of Coastal.
A solid concrete entry wall makes a bold architectural statement, while clean lines and raw materials were used throughout the home.
A stunning round skylight and large glass windows in the living spaces and bedroom filter sunlight, and frame forest views.
“We didn’t need to have art on the walls, because the living canvas of the rainforest was our art,” Ms Conforti said.
Striking grey-veined marble is a feature in the sleek kitchen, complemented by a dining table custom-made from the same beautiful stone.
The main bathroom is another moment, with floor-to-ceiling travertine, extending to a luxurious built-in bathtub, again capturing green views through a picture window.
And then, there’s the sublime outdoor hot tub, an extension of the concrete al fresco deck, which appears to float over the landscape.
“We love our entertaining area overlooking the dam,” Ms Conforti said. “It’s so beautiful, we get so much wildlife.” Wallabies, koalas, echidnas – all are frequent visitors.
You can cast a line in the Currumbin Creek, which flows through the property, or tee off into the sky from a viewing platform that also serves as an informal driving range.
“It’s quite a low-maintenance block too, for living on acreage, and that is what we’ve tried to create here because we’re very busy people,” Ms Conforti said. “It’s our sanctuary.” There’s also a large shed or recreational space, ideal for a gym and equipped with a sauna and an entertaining lounge with a bar, plus space to store all the toys that come with acreage living.
The Confortis’ last personal build was a designer bespoke home in Tugun with an indoor skate ramp, which sold in 2021 for $3m.
They had originally planned to build another, larger house on the Currumbin block, but have jumped on an opportunity to start a new project.
