Dusties down but not out
The Warragul Industrials division one women's side have been defeated in their qualifying final against Mornington on Saturday
Playing against the side that finished top of the ladder, the Dusties were strong early before being overrun 4.4 (28) to 5.11 (41).
The rain began falling at Hastings as the players ran out on to the field to start the game.
The first quarter was an arm wrestle with neither side being dominant.
Sarah Burns took several intercept marks deep in defence to help restrict scoring from the Mornington team.
A late goal to the Dusties had the scores at a goal each at the first break.
In the second quarter the Dusties team dominated, adding three goals including great crumbing goals from Michaela Williams and Nikia Webber.
The Warragul Industrials backs were on top and managed to keep Mornington scoreless, the midfielders were causing headaches and the forwards were making the most of their opportunities and were locking the ball inside the attacking 50.
While the Dusties team went into half time full of confidence, unfortunately Mornington fought back hard in the second half.
Assisted by the wind, Mornington controlled the quarter and hit the front just before the three quarter time siren.
The Dusties had a few opportunities in the final quarter but could only manage behinds.
A late goal for Mornington pushed the lead to 13 points at the final siren.
The Dusties will now face Seaford next Saturday for the right to play in the Mornington Peninsula women's division one grand final.
Best players for Warragul Industrials were Abbey Hoiberg-Cox, Monai Porykali, Lily Van Berkel, Alisa Molesworth and Kelly O'Neill.
Earlier that day the Dusties' division three side finished their season with an elimination final defeat to Pearcedale.
The Dusties challenged their opponents every step of the way but were unable to get the result, going down 4.2 (26) to 5.8 (38).
Regardless it's been a remarkable effort from the development side to make finals and they will carry forward that momentum into next season.
Warragul Industrials' best in the loss were Ellen Croft, Nicole Sheridan, Lily Baldwin, Jaz Middleton and Amelia Sim.
