Register events now for seniors festival guide

-

Local groups looking to hold events during Victorian Seniors Festival are urged to register now.

Expressions of interest for the Baw Baw Seniors Festival Guide will close tomorrow (Wednesday).

Victorian Seniors Month occurs in October each year across the nation to celebrate getting older, create opportunities for people to meet and open doors to make new connections.

This year’s theme is “Explore. Engage. Evolve” to encourage older Victorians to stay curious and connected by exploring new activities, meeting new people and changing how people think of ageing.

To create the local guide and showcase local activities, Baw Baw Shire Council is inviting local businesses, community groups and organisations to submit their events, activities or programs.

Listings can include one-off events or ongoing programs available to people over the age of 60 years.

Featured events in the past include group fitness classes, singing activities, bushwalking, friendly golf, croquet or table tennis competitions, musical concerts, gardening and movie screenings.

Baw Baw Shire mayor Annemarie McCabe said the Victorian Seniors

Festival was a wonderful initiative and looked forward to seeing many local groups get involved.

“Following retirement or once reaching a certain age, it can be easy to become isolated, which is why the Victorian Seniors Festival is such a great opportunity,” Cr McCabe said. “It gives people a chance to meet others while also trying their hand at something they’ve never done before, or getting out to see or take part in something that used to bring them lots of joy.”

To submit your event, activity or program, email healthy.bawbaw@ bawbawshire.vic.gov.au by tomorrow.

The Travellers Rest Hotel at Thorpdale will soon have its own distillery brewing flavoured vodkas.
