I’VE BEEN LUCKY

enough to squeeze in quite a bit of travel in the past 12 months. In May I went to Canada to travel through the Canadian Rockies on the Rocky Mountaineer – a once-in-a-lifetime experience I would thoroughly recommend. It was my first trip to Canada and I fell in love with Vancouver and Jasper, which has sadly been devastated by fire since my visit. The Rockies are awe-inspiring, and I can’t imagine a better way to see them than from the Rocky Mountaineer.

While going abroad is amazing, I must admit I’m yet to find anything as beautiful as Australia. No beach I’ve been to compares to ours, nor have I seen a country with such diverse landscapes – and I’ve seen a lot of it. As a child, I was always being packed into the back seat of the car with my brother to go on family road trips. We’d camp or stay in a cabin (staying in a hotel was a luxury we indulged in only once or twice).

In this issue, we cover off some of our favourite getaways, and on September 5 our special travel-themed issue, Dream Stays Volume III, will go on sale. Grab a copy to discover the most beautiful country and coastal holiday homes, plus regional hotels. It’s an invaluable resource if you’re planning to get out and see more of this great country.

It’s also Father’s Day soon, and we talk to a very special dad, Robert Caruana, who offers a cute cottage for guests to book and experience his family farm, Glen Donald Estate in Bumbaldry, Central West NSW. I had the pleasure of visiting with my daughter Ally and we had a wonderful time. At one point, the cottage was surrounded by goats – they were even jumping off the verandah! We also got to bottle-feed orphaned kids. A very authentic farmstay that I can’t wait to return to.
